Community Impact Grants will be awarded in the following three focus areas, which allow us to home in on supporting food access in traditionally underfunded areas.
Mobile Market (Prioritizing community-led projects and partners for immediate access)
A mobile market is a traveling grocery store or food pantry designed to bridge the gap in communities with limited access to nutritious food options. These mobile markets must function as a reliable, recurring marketplace with a predictable schedule that neighbors can depend on. Shipt funds diverse distribution styles, whether food is provided directly from a vehicle, through adjacent tabling, or a hybrid model. Strong applications will demonstrate how the mobile market acts as a consistent community anchor rather than a sporadic distribution event.
Teaching Farm (Championing social connection, linking immediate access & systems change)
A teaching farm is a working agricultural space – ranging from an urban garden to a multi-acre plot – that transforms food production into a classroom experience. These farms offer hands-on learning opportunities for youth students, adult learners, and/or community members centered around food systems, sustainability, and agricultural careers. Strong applications will demonstrate an integrated approach where educational programming and community engagement are as central to the mission as the food production itself.
Food Hub (Uplifting and inspiring local innovation for systems-level change)
A food hub creates new market opportunities for multiple small to mid-sized farms and food entrepreneurs. These hubs manage the aggregation, storage, distribution, and marketing of locally sourced foods. They provide shared infrastructure and wraparound support to connect producers to local market access points like retail/institutional partners, rural outlets, and community spaces. Strong applications will demonstrate listening to producer needs, providing individualized support, and a prioritization of regional food security and farmer prosperity.
